(Newser) – If you're a single lady and looking to ring in the New Year with a new love, go west, young woman—ideally to Los Angeles, the best city for single women in the nation, with 111,000 more single men than women. If you're a single man, however, the Northeast corridor, between Washington, DC, and Boston, is the place to be. New York City takes the No. 1 slot, boasting nearly 150,000 more single women than men (of course, Northern New Jersey and Long Island are lumped in). Other winners, according to the Daily Beast:

For men, with the surplus of single women noted:

  • Washington, DC area: 48,177
  • Philadelphia area: 30,929
  • Baltimore area: 26,575
For women, with the surplus of single men noted:
  • Phoenix area: 88,288
  • San Diego area: 64,295
  • Riverside/San Bernardino, Calif.: 59,498

There are more single women on the east coast, and more men on the west coast, writes the Daily Beast.

I love how they make sure to note that awful North Jersey and Long Island are lumped into the Northeast corridor.
