Yanks $100M Short on A-Rod

(Newser) – Not even close. The Yankees fell more than $100 million short of what A-Rod and agent Scott Boras demanded, ESPN reports. Before opting out of his contract, Alex Rodriguez told the Yanks he wanted a deal worth a staggering $350 million over eight years, but the team figured on about $230 million. The two sides never even sat down to try to bridge the difference.

During the last five years of the proposed Yanks' contract, A-Rod would have earned the highest annual salary in MLB history. The Mets, Dodgers, Giants, Angels, and Marlins still have yet to rule out trying to sign the all-star third-baseman, though sources say it's now unlikely that the Dodgers will be able to afford a deal to reunite A-Rod and Joe Torre, ESPN says.
