Rice Ordered to Testify in Espionage Trial

Posted Nov 3, 07 9:32 AM CDT in US

(Newser) – In a rare move, a federal judge yesterday ordered Condoleezza Rice and 10 other high-ranking officials to testify at the upcoming trial of two pro-Israel lobbyists accused of espionage. National security adviser Stephen Hadley and former Defense official Paul Wolfowitz are among those subpoenaed to testify on behalf of the lobbyists, the Washington Post reports.

The lobbyists, Steven Rosen and Keith Weissman of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, allegedly conspired to obtain classified information and pass it on to journalists and Israeli Embassy officials. Lawyers for Rosen and Weissman hope that the testimony will show that US government officials actually gave the two lobbyists the sensitive information they have been accused of furtively seeking.
