(Newser) – Deal site Groupon says it can be used for anything, and one young Cincinnati suitor took the company at its word to snag his future wife, Mashable reports. Greg H's deal—Groupon helped him create what it's calling his "Grouposal"—went up today, and suggested that, for the modest price of $1, his girlfriend Dana marry him. Fine print clarified that it was "nontransferable." Also, "Either party may develop a snoring problem. One or both participants will not always look like a 20-year-old." Happily, she clicked "Buy."

Today, local deals site Groupon saw its first marriage proposal, and the bride-to-be clicked “Buy." (Groupon)

(NEWSER) - Did Groupon insiders try for a daily deal of their own? A Wall Street regulator is probing some fishy trading activity in the hours before the company released stronger-than-expected financial results earlier this week, sources tell the Wall Street Journal . Shares in the company—which had fallen more than 50% since its IPO in November—surged more than 18% in the hours before the announcement, with 16 million shares trading hands, some four times the daily average. The regulator is considering referring the activity to the Securities and Exchange Commission, the sources say. More»

(NEWSER) - Groupon is starting to look like a good buy for investors again. The daily deals company's shares surged 18% yesterday, and climbed further in after-hours trading after it recorded its first-ever quarterly profit, excluding a one-off charge for tax expenses, reports Reuters . Revenue leaped 89% from a year earlier to $559.3 million. Groupon now has 36.9 million customers, and it served more than 100,000 merchants last quarter while marketing costs dropped sharply, say company officials. More»

(NEWSER) - A lesbian who refused to leave a North Carolina government office without a wedding license was taken away in handcuffs yesterday after what organizers say was the first of many protests against the state's newly passed gay marriage ban . After a march through downtown Winston-Salem, nine gay and lesbian couples—some of them with their children—presented completed forms and identification to the local Register of Deeds office but were refused a license, reports AP .
