An upbeat Michael Douglas says the tumor in his throat is gone and he has beaten late-stage cancer. "The odds are, with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, I've got it beat," the actor told the Today Show's Matt Lauer in an interview that will air next week.

The 66-year-old actor says he's been "eating like a pig" to replace the 32 pounds he lost during chemotherapy. The experience, he says, has given his life more depth. "The affection from my family, my friends, and my fans hit me at a much deeper level than I would have ever imagined before," he said. "And it gave me a really new appreciation of just how valuable, how precious good friends are, and family." (More Michael Douglas stories.)
