What danger lurks in bed for men allergic to their own semen?   (?l . e . o)

(Newser) – Talk about disappointing sex. A rare semen allergy is being linked to a strange, flu-like illness some men experience after orgasm. Men who suffer from post orgasmic illness syndrome, or POIS, become feverishness, with a runny nose, extreme fatigue and burning eyes immediately after ejaculation, reports Reuters. Symptoms can last up to week. Two Dutch studies are attributing the illness to men's allergy to their semen. The illness is currently being treated in some subjects through hyposensitization therapy by injecting men with minute doses of their own semen to reduce the allergic response.

"These results are a very important breakthrough in the research of this syndrome," said the lead researcher. The syndrome has been tracked since 2002, but scientists suggest it predates that year and possibly affects far more men than generally suspected because they're reluctant to discuss the illness with physicians.
