Let's Make February a Palin-Free Month

Post columnist Milbank promises not to write or speak about her

(Newser) – Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank has a promise sure to please many: "I hereby pledge that, beginning on Feb 1, 2011, I will not mention Sarah Palin—in print, online or on television—for one month," he writes in today's column. What's more, he wants everyone else in the media to do same. "With enough support, I believe we may even be able to extend the moratorium beyond one month, but we are up against a powerful compulsion, and we must take this struggle day by day."

Milbank fesses up to writing 42 columns that mention Palin since she emerged on the scene, and he does a Lexis-Nexis search to call out peers with the same addiction—Maureen Dowd (45), Eugene Robinson (33), Kathleen Parker (30), Keith Olbermann (345 shows mentioning her), Rachel Maddow (183), Bill O'Reilly (664), and and Sean Hannity (411). "We need help," he writes.

(NEWSER) - Nebraskans went to the polls today, and while Mitt Romney's victory was a foregone conclusion— CNN called it early—the real race to watch was the Republican Senate primary, won by a Sarah Palin favorite. Little-known state Sen. Deb Fisher, who garnered a flurry of Tea Party endorsements after Palin backed her, edged out establishment favorite, Attorney General Jon Bruning, 41% to 36%. (NEWSER) - Team Romney’s rule of thumb: Do the opposite of everything John McCain did in 2008, or so reports Politico in a look at the campaign's strategy. The approach applies broadly, say advisers—focus hugely on the economy, fully engage in fundraising, integrate early with the Republican National Committee—but comes most into play in the search for a VP. Axed Agent Joked About 'Checking Out' Sarah Palin

'Check this out—you're fired!' she says

(NEWSER) - One of the two Secret Service supervisors to lose their jobs so far over the Colombia sex scandal joked that he was checking out Sarah Palin as he guarded her during the 2008 campaign, the Washington Post finds. Senior agent David Chaney posted at least two pictures of himself with Palin on Facebook, one with the comment, "I was really checking her out, if you know what I mean." Chaney has been forced to resign, and another supervisor has been informed that he will be fired. More»
