Lamar Moore may have been related to man facing murder sentence

(Newser) – Police have identified the gunman who opened fire in a Detroit police precinct yesterday as Lamar Moore, 38. Moore, who was killed in return fire, is thought to have been related to a man set for sentencing today in a double homicide, said the city’s police chief. The four officers injured in the shooting are all expected to recover, reports the Detroit News. “It was a rough weekend for all of us but we're going to stand tall,” said the chief. Click for more.

(NEWSER) - A reality television crew was on the scene when 7-year-old Aiyana Jones was shot by a Detroit police officer, and may have filmed the killing. Sandra Layne charged with murder

(NEWSER) - A Michigan grandmother who said she was afraid of her grandson has been charged with murder after shooting the teenager eight times, according to law enforcement authorities. The 17-year-old boy called 911 to tell an emergency dispatcher that he had been shot in the chest by his grandmother, and "was going to die," AP reports. Sandra Layne, 74, shot her grandson at least four more times with her Glock semi-automatic after he made the call, police report. More»

(AP) - An Islamic extremist who killed two US airmen bound for Afghanistan at Frankfurt airport last year and injured two others was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison today. (NEWSER) - Police are still sorting out what happened at a Florida RV park last night, after a standoff that left three people dead and two others badly hurt. Police got a call about a shooting at the park just before 6:30pm, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel . When they arrived, they found a man lying outside an RV. (NEWSER) - The plot thickened today in the case of the grenade and shooting rampage in Liege, Belgium , when police announced that they'd found a woman's body hidden in a shack that alleged gunman Nordine Amrani was using to grow marijuana. The woman is said to be a 45-year-old who worked for Amrani's neighbors as a cleaner, the BBC reports. The shack also contained a stockpile of weapons and ammunition. More»
