(Newser) – The United States is demanding the release of an American diplomat charged yesterday in the murders of two Pakistanis he says were trying to rob him, reports the AP. "The United States Embassy in Pakistan calls for the immediate release," according to a statement that cited Raymond Davis' immunity, and said he had been illegally detained. Davis remains in custody, and US officials only gained access to him last night.

The ugly American era attitude of "we can do whatever we want because we can" is over. We are and will continue to pay for that behavior in the coming years. The whole problem stems from this stupid "diplomatic immunity" BS that doesn't allow for prosecution when a diplomat or whatever commits a crime in the nation they are in. Instead the rule should be that diplomats will be held accountable for crimes commited in said countries and whatever the law is in that country, they must be followed. Diplomacy before gunfire should always be the rule. Diplomacy leaves alot less dead behind. Iraq is a prime example of what ugly America has done to our reputation.

Embarto, I dont know which planet you live on, but check your local newspaper to see that US already has OVER 100,000 TROOPS in Afghanistan and they cant do jack $hit. Same crap was said about Vietnam, to go into Laos and Cambodia to get'er done done! Thats all BS. This war is unwinnable. As to your statement about slapping around other countries... well you can slap around countries like Iraq, but not a country like Pakistan that has nukes and a professional army capable of major damage to that, err, the company of marines you spoke of! Last time someone suggested that, Pentagon estimated a MINIMUM force level of 1.5 MILLION troops to invade Pakistan! lol. US Army stands at about 575,000 troops today, so good luck Sunny! Thirdly, LEARN to respect other countries LAWS. Dont send in elmer fuds to do as they please in the SECOND LARGEST CITY OF PAKISTAN!!! That ex-Special Forces gun for hire who's now claiming "Diplomatic Immunity" was there in paksitan chasing $$$ and its the SAME attitude that Xe's loose guns took in Iraq when they were hung on public streets and burned. This guy is a criminal, let the criminal procedure work its course in Pakistani courts. This guy IS NOT A DIPLOMAT. This was obvious from this guy's very first statements to the police when he said he was a "technical adviser" to the US Consulate in Lahore. It took US embassy 2 days to claim diplomatic immunity when they realized they couldnt STRONG ARM Pakistani justice system. Slap that for a little bit!

Send in a division of Marines with lots of ammo and just take his ass back! While they are there, let 'em ditty bop up north and clean the Hindu-Kush out too. There's already an anvil element in Afghanistan. A month and we'd be done over there. Not playing this war with borders crap. It's time some one read Teddy Roosevelt's book and as a nation we went back to bitch slapping radical elements instead of paying them before they do something. Not running around Helter Skelter apologizing to every one From France to Germany for hanging a foot in their ass's in two wars! Yeah, I'm still pissed about the kid in the cold showers and hot sauce thing!
