Schilling Sticks with Sox for $8M

Posted Nov 6, 07 10:34 PM CST in Sports    Editor's Choice

(newser) – The champion Red Sox locked up aging ace Curt Schilling with a one-year, $8 million contract with an additional $6 million in incentives, including $2 million if he stays below a certain weight. Schilling opined on his blog that he could net up to $15 million on the open market, but preferred to end his career in Boston.

The 39-year-old, one of postseason history's winningest pitchers, will undergo six weigh-ins during the 2008 season, but is unlikely to stay below the magic number, reports the Boston Globe. Schilling: "I am sure the clause will add 15-100 more jokes to [manager Terry Francona]'s Schilling joke book," Schilling lamented on his blog.
