Sony Ericsson Hums New Tune

(Newser) – London mobile-phone maker Sony Ericsson has unveiled plans for its own online music store for computers and mobile phones. The service will roll out next spring, and claims it will add millions of new music tracks from major record labels. The move comes as Sony Ericsson is facing increasing competition from Nokia and Apple's music-playing iPhone, which starts European sales Friday.

"The situation today is that we have offers on the table of 5 million music tracks, as a first step, from all the majors, as well as local and independent labels," Martin Blomkvist, head of content acquisition and management, told the Wall Street Journal. Sony also introduced new Walkman phones that will work with its new store.
