Zach Wahls began his speech to state lawmakers simply: "I'm a sixth-generation Iowan and an engineering student at the University of Iowa, and I was raised by two women." He moves on to a passionate defense of his family—it "isn't so different than any other Iowa family"—and his upbringing—"If I was your son, Mr. Chairman, I believe I'd make you very proud"—in arguing against an amendment to ban same-sex marriage in the state, notes BoingBoing.
