Anderson Cooper may have been the highest-profile journalist attacked today, but he's far from the only one. (See the video gallery for CNN footage of the assault). Mediaite says reporters from the AP, the BBC, a Danish newspaper, and Israeli TV also were roughed up. Katie Couric had to cut short one report after pro-Mubarak protesters closed in, and others surrounded ABC's Christiane Amanpour and warned her to leave. Neither Couric nor Amanpour were injured.

“The Egyptian government is employing a strategy of eliminating witnesses to their actions,” says a regional official with the Committee to Protect Journalists. "The government has resorted to blanket censorship, intimidation, and today a series of deliberate attacks on journalists carried out by pro-government mobs.” (More Egypt protests stories.)
