(Newser) – Watch your back, Bigfoot. Animal Planet's coming. The cable channel is sending a film crew into a national forest near Charlotte, NC, today to try to catch a glimpse, reports the Charlotte Observer. The crew is following along with local retiree Michael Greene, who swears he saw the big guy there in 2009. (He's got "thermal imaging video" at his site, but it'll cost you $2.)

Greene is already lowering expectations, telling the Salisbury Post there's little chance Bigfoot will pop up with so many people around. But it's OK, because “I’m all for promoting Bigfoot awareness." Animal Planet plans a six-episode series including hunts elsewhere around the country—like Shark Week for Sasquatch—and is keeping a very straight face. Its crews "are using modern technology to finally find the legendary and elusive creature," says a spokeswoman.

I can't believe I watched part of the show... what a silly waste of time for viewers and the so called scientists and "experts" sitting around a table pretending to analyze the "evidence". Several of them could barely suppress their incredulous [what am I doing here?] smiles. I hope they were well paid.

Wonder if the guy from North Carolina will share what he is drinking with the film crew

A guy walks into a bar and there's a bigfoot behind the bar serving drinks. The guy stops and watches the bigfoot for a while. Bigfoot says, "What's the matter? You never seen a bigfoot bartending before?" The guys says, "No, it's not that. I didn't know that Nessie sold the place."
