Judge Bans Man From Sex Over Low IQ

A UK judge has barred a man from continuing a sexual relationship with another man because of his extremely low IQ, the Telegraph reports. The 41-year-old lives in an assisted living facility, has an IQ of 48, and is "seriously challenged in all aspects of his mental functionality,” according to mental health professionals. His partner also lives at the facility.

Though the man said that continued sexual relations would "make me feel happy," the court ruled that he is not to have sex again and ordered close supervision to ensure that he abides by the ruling. The rationale is that he can't understand the health risks and give proper consent. UK judges have the power to make life-or-death decisions for mentally challenged individuals—such as whether to have surgery—but this is the first time the powers have been applied to sex.
