Atlanta is offering some early season validation to the many pundits who picked them as a sleeper this season. The Hawks beat the Suns 105-96 to give the young squad another victory over a 60-win club from last year, after upsetting Dallas on opening night. Atlanta was led by Josh Smith’s 22 points and 10 rebounds, according to the AP. Elsewhere in the Association:

  • In an unlikely battle of undefeated teams the Clippers emerged victorious over the Pacers 104-89. The venerable Sam Cassell led the way for Los Angeles with 35 points.
  • Philadelphia dismantled Charlotte 94-63. The Bobcats were missing their lightning-quick point guard Raymond Felton, and their offense sputtered without him. Andre Iguodala led the Sixers with 19 points.
