(Newser) – Kenny Chesney won entertainer of the year at last night's Country Music Association awards on the strength of his latest release, Just Who I Am. "American Idol's" Carrie Underwood nabbed the awards for best female vocalist and single of the year, while Braid Paisley took home honors for best male vocalist and best music video for his song Online.

"I can't tell you what this means to me to win this. I always wanted to win this award at least once—this will do," said Paisley, tearing up at the podium. Sugarland broke Brooks and Dunn’s near 15-year shut-out by winning honors for best vocal duo—but retained their modesty: "We're standing on the shoulders of giants who've come before us," said Jennifer Nettles.
