(Newser) – Mickey Rooney "is effectively a prisoner in his own home," according to a court filing accusing his stepson of verbally abusing the 90-year-old actor and withholding food and medicine. A judge granted Rooney a temporary restraining order against Chris Aber on Monday, ordering Aber to stay 100 yards away from Rooney and his home at least until a Feb. 24 hearing. Court documents claim Aber "threatens, intimidates, bullies, and harasses Mickey," forces him to make certain appearances, and meddles in his financial affairs, the AP reports.

"All I want to do is live a peaceful life, to regain my life and be happy," Rooney wrote in a statement. "I pray to God each day to protect us, help us endure, and guide those other senior citizens who are also suffering."

Mickey Rooney on stage always made people laugh, and as a performer always had that infectious way about him. He's been married 8 times and i believe back in the 80's was forced to declare bankruptcy and so i wonder how altogether Mickey is @ 90. Maybe he just has been a poor judge of character and bad luck. He does laugh at life -- this is a continuance of hard luck to a guy that made us all laugh.

I've been a Mickey Rooney fan for decades, I'm 58. This is a sad way for Mickey to be treated. I'm glad to see him standing up for himself. Go Mickey. <:-)
