Phillies Trade for Lidge

Posted Nov 8, 07 5:28 AM CST in Sports

(Newser) – The Phillies acquired former All-Star Brad Lidge along with utility man Eric Bruntlet from the Astros yesterday in exchange for Michael Bourn, reliever Geoff Geary and minor-league third baseman Mike Costanzo.

Lidge will take over the closer role that Brett Myers held last season and Myers will be sent back to the rotation, a move Myers isn't particularly pleased about.  "It's a little disappointing because I felt closing was good for me. But the team has other needs and I can do both. I'm not surprised. You could read between the lines," Myers said after being informed of the trade. Lidge, who had off-season knee surgery, is expected to be 100% by opening day.
