Somali Pirates Hijack 4 Americans

California couple on round-the-world mission since 2004

(AP) – Somali pirates yesterday hijacked a yacht with four Americans aboard, in likely retaliation for the 33-year prison sentence this week of a pirate in the hijacking of the US vessel Maersk Alabama. The yacht Quest belongs to missionaries Jean and Scott Adam, who have been sailing around the world since 2004, distributing Bibles as they go, reports the AP. A Somali pirate told the AP earlier this week that Americans would see "regrettable consequences" for the sentencing of their compatriot.

"All relevant U.S. agencies are monitoring the situation, working to develop further information, assess options and possible responses," says a spokesman at the US embassy in neighboring Kenya. The Adams maintain a website here.

With all the nonsense we get put through at the airport, air/sea hijackers, the fact that most countries hate Americans (even when we provide them with a bottomless pit of taxpayer money), the dollar is worth crap, can someone please explain to me what's so great about traveling these days?

If people want a new religion, they will seek it out. Sending missionaries to proselytize is patronizing and invasive. If you really want people to change, learn their religion, and show them a different perspective of it. It is not which religion you follow, but how you practice it, that changes everything.

These people showed a serious lack of common sense by sailing into this area. No, wait. I take that back. They were dumber than a box of rocks to sail anywhere within a thousand miles of Somalia. And now we'll be wasting our tax dollars trying to rescue these morons. If we do get them back, they should have to foot the bill for their rescue. Maybe that will keep their stupid asses at home...
