White House Picks First Gay Social Secretary

The White House has picked a new social secretary who makes a little history on two fronts: Not only is Jeremy Bernard the first man to hold the post, he's the first openly gay person to do so, reports Lynn Sweet at AOL's Politics Daily. Bernard, a former fundraiser for President Obama in Los Angeles, currently serves as an adviser to the French ambassador in Paris. He replaces Julianna Smoot, who took over after Desiree Rogers left in the wake of the Tareq and Michaele Salahi party-crashing mess. (More Barack Obama stories.)
