The ritual Critical Mass, an informal large group cycling ride which is typically held on the last Friday of every month in over 300 global cities, ended in tragedy. A motorist plowed his VW Golf through the group of riders, subsequently injuring twenty riders, eight of whom were sent to the local emergency rooms. Brazilian police released a statement upon contact from the driver's lawyer: "The lawyer called us saying he represents the owner of the car and the owner was driving the car at the time of the facts.
