Slumdog Star Loses All in Fire

(Newser) Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina Ali is out on the street after a blaze ripped through her Mumbai slum today. "It's all gone. Even my best clothes, everything," Rubina tearfully told the AP via phone; the 12-year-old also lost her awards, clippings, and photos from the Oscar-winning flick. "We just grabbed what we could and dashed out. The fire spread so fast we couldn't get back in," says Rafiq Ali, her father. Some 2000 people were also left homeless.

Life hasn't exactly been Easy Street for the child star since Slumdog's success: Allegations surfaced that her father was trying to sell her; then the Indian government tore down her home in 2009. Finally the family appeared to catch a break when Slumdog director Danny Boyle said he'd bought them an apartment; Rubina says the family has yet to move in.

Now's the time for Conservative Jack & friends to step in and say that the kid had no right to any money because it was financed by capitalists and she signed the contract, took her pittance and should be happy with it.

This isn't the first time Ms. Ali--or her child costar, Azharuddin Ismail--has been left homeless since Slumdog Millionaire won Best Picture a couple of years ago. Danny Boyle is pure evil. See: http://boycottslumdogmillionaire.blogspot.com/ http://boycottdannyboyle.blogspot.com/

With all the millions this movie generated, why is she still living in the slums? Something is terribly wrong and unjust. Hollywood should hang their head in shame. Come on you self-centered fools, how can you turn your heads aside and let this young lady suffer for one more minute?
