(Getty Images) (Newser) – "America is not broke ... Wisconsin is not broke," said liberal filmmaker Michael Moore to more than 30,000 cheering protesters in Wisconsin yesterday, adding, "The only thing that's broke is the moral compass of the rulers." Moore said that the wealthy elite had overreached with Gov. Scott Walker's attempt to strip collective bargaining rights from many state employees, reports the AP. "The country is awash in wealth and cash," said Moore. "It has been transferred in the greatest heist in history from the workers and consumers to the banks and the portfolios of the über-rich." "Wall Street, the banks and the Fortune 500 now run this republic," said Moore, but the Madison protesters had "aroused a sleeping giant" in labor rights. "Don't give up. Please don't give up." Moore also said that there had been three big lies over the last decade, reports the Journal-Sentinel: "Wisconsin is broke. There are weapons of mass destruction (in Iraq). And the Packers need (Brett) Favre to win the Super Bowl."
