Dems Forcing 'Girly' Lightbulbs on Us: Colbert

Why should we have to use these 'pigtail lights'?

(Newser) – Thanks to the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act, incandescent lightbulbs will be "effectively banned" by the Democrats come 2012, complained Stephen Colbert last night—and he is not happy about their replacements, the girly-looking compact fluorescent lights that some conservatives have described as... More »

California has proven that these things do not last as long as touted by the manufacturers. And, yes, there are hazardous material components to them. The only way to go is ALL LED. I have never gone for the girly lights...it is bad physics and engineering in the end!

We did the high end LED lights for a metered section of our office two years ago. They look kind of like this: http://www.topnews.in/files/led_lights.jpg The bulbs cost @$40 US. They all still work and the electric bill reduced an average of 20% over the course of the past two years. We are now in the process of replacing all our lights with the high end LED lights. You pay more up front but after two years we have already recouped our cost on the electricity used. If these lights live the full 10 years the savings will be massive. This is one 'green' idea that makes financial sense.

Repubs are blamed for imposing morality, dems impose supposedly 'it's good for you' 'holier than thou, stupid, unthought -out, stupid 'green' ideas. How's ethanol working out? Cap 'n trades right around the corner, probably under a different name. Riding bikes, low speed trains, Michele's diet plans for kids, breastfeeding, gardening...Windmills, solar panels, on and on. We haven't saved a dime on electricity bills after switching to CFL's and they certainly need to be replaced every year, or less.Love when I turn them on and still can't see. You have to put on a Hazmat suit when they break. Reminds me I still have an old broken thermometer with the mercury saved in a paper cup. We used to play with mercury in science lab, roll it around, break it into pieces, and watch it flow back together. How 'bout some nuclear power plants. France has 'em and you all love Europe's grand schemes.
