(Newser) – A statue of Michael Jackson has found an unlikely home outside a soccer stadium in London. Jackson's statute will greet fans arriving at Fulham's home ground Craven Cottage on the banks of the Thames after it is unveiled early next month, the Telegraph reports. Team owner Mohammed Al Fayed, who commissioned the statue of his old friend after the singer's death in 2009, had originally planned to erect it outside Harrods, but he sold the luxury department store last year.

"He was my friend, a man with whom I shared many happy memories and who died a tragic and untimely death," Fayed said. "I hope that many fans of his will visit the statue at the Cottage from far and wide, and that Fulham fans will appreciate seeing the finest performer in the world." Jackson visited the stadium in person in 1999, joining Fayed to watch Fulham defeat Wigan 2-0.

I know the Americans here won't give a s**t about this story since you don't really care for football, by which I mean proper football not that version of rugby which you guys call football, but WTF is a statue of Michael Jackson doing at a football stadium? It just shows what a fruitcake Fayed is.
