Cotto Outlasts Mosley, Keeps Title

(Newser) – Miguel Cotto came out triumphant over Shane Mosley in a well-matched fight last night at Madison Square Garden, ESPN reports. Cotto held on to his welterweight title by landing more powerful punches in the 115-113 decision, improving to 31-0 as the more experienced and well-known Mosley dropped to 44-5.

Mosley gave Cotto his due after the fight, describing his opponent as "a young lion on his way to greatness" and noting that the slugger and brawler "can also box." Mosley himself put up nearly as good a fight; the men each landed 48 punches. While Mosley is now considering retirement, Cotto is poised for another bout with a top-10 fighter.
