Mother sent images to Brit boyfriend

(Newser) – A woman who sexually abused her own toddler daughter while streaming it live over the Internet was sentenced yesterday to 15 years in prison. "I never meant to hurt anyone in my family, and I have regretted it ever since," said Maine mom Julie Carr, 33. She was convicted of performing oral sex on her daughter on four occasions while streaming it to a teenager in Britain she had met on an Internet dating site, reports CNN.

Carr was convicted of producing child pornography, and gross sexual assault and exploitation of a minor. "When I see child-pornography, I ask myself: Where are the parents? Where are the people who are supposed to be protecting the child?'" said US District Judge John Woodcock. "Well, Ms. Carr, in your case, we know where the mother was."

(NEWSER) - A mother and her three young daughters were found shot to death near a Missouri campground in what police believe was a triple murder-suicide. Each was killed by a single gunshot, and the weapon was found near the bodies, according to police. The four were not staying at the Bourbon campground, but the mother's vehicle was found nearby. They were identified as 37-year-old Christine Adewunmi, and daughters Lauren, 8, Samantha, 6, and Kate, 3. Christine's husband and the father of the girls reported them missing last week, according to KMOX-TV . "There was no indication of any problems," a neighbor told Fox2. More»

Sloan Briles dove in, too—to escape furious passengers

(NEWSER) - A drunk ex-Marine who hurled his 7-year-old son into a busy harbor during a California sightseeing cruise has been sentenced to 180 days in a residential treatment facility for alcoholism. Sloan Briles, 35, who pleaded guilty to felony child abuse, will also have to attend a year of child abuse treatment and will serve three years probation. Prosecutors had sought jail time, and he faced a possible six years behind bars. Briles was on the cruise with his girlfriend and two young sons when he poked and repeatedly slapped one of his boys in the face. When the boy cried and told his dad to stop hurting him, Briles hoisted his son up over the ship rail and heaved him into Orange County's busy Newport Harbor, reports the Los Angeles Times . More»

Utah Professor Watched Child Porn on Flight: Police

Fellow passenger took photo of laptop to alert cops

(NEWSER) - An engineering professor from the University of Utah was busted on a Delta flight from Salt Lake City on Saturday after a fellow passenger sent a message to alert police that he was viewing child pornography on his laptop, according to investigators. A passenger behind Grant Smith in the first-class section took a photo of what appeared on Grant's computer, and emailed it to a relative with a message to contact police, reports the Boston Globe . Grant was arrested at Logan Airport in Boston, and investigators found "disturbing images of child pornography" on his computer, said a police spokesman. He has been charged with possession of child porn and will be arraigned today. He has already been placed on administrative leave by the university. More»

Babysitter, Baby Boy Missing

Dad left son in care of 'friend of a friend'

(NEWSER) - Baltimore cops are seeking a 16-year-old babysitter and a baby boy in her charge who have been missing for three days. "Put my baby somewhere safe and call somebody. He's probably hungry," the baby's tearful mom pleaded at a support rally yesterday. "It's a 7-month-old baby—you got to have some kind of heart." The baby's dad left his son in the care of Janae Boozer, a "friend of a friend" who stopped by to borrow a cigarette, and he left to buy some at a store, he told police. The teen's belongings and a half-finished baby bottle were left behind when the two vanished, reports the Baltimore Sun . "It's a shame you can't trust people these days," said a neighbor, clutching the hand of his daughter. More»
