In the latest incident of Chechen violence spreading to bordering regions, Russian police killed at least 8 militants in a house raid in neighboring republic of Dagestan today, the AP reports. Police, who were acting on a tip about an armed gang in the capital Makhachkala, are still searching for more bodies and troops moved through the city to constant sound of gunfire.

Russian TV showed another gun battle in Makhachkala as police raided an apartment building, though it did not specify whether it was related to the fatal raid. Dagestan has been plagued recently by numerous clashes between gangs, insurgents, and police. (More Russia stories.)
