Plot Rumors Leak on Fourth Stieg Larsson Novel

But much uncertainty remains on whether novel will see the light of day

(Newser) The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo kicked off a trilogy of international bestsellers—and though author Stieg Larsson died in 2004, rumors of another novel’s existence are gaining traction. Plot details have emerged, but the book’s fate remains murky as Larsson’s family and his former girlfriend battle over his estate, the Los Angeles Times reports. The unpublished novel tells the story of heroine Lisbeth Salander’s estranged twin, Camilla, who appeared only briefly in The Girl Who Played With Fire, said Larsson’s friend Kurdo Baksi.

Baksi told a Swedish paper that the novel, set on an isolated island in Canada, also delves more into Salander’s relationship with journalist Mikael Blomqvist, notes the Hollywood Reporter. “At some point, one hopes that there is a finality to the question about the fourth book,” said a rep for the series’ US publisher. Earlier reports, however, cited a fifth, not fourth, Larsson book waiting in the wings.

Considering how badly Larsson's estranged brothers treated their brother's long time partner, she's obviously not in a mood to yield anything to them. They inherited Larsson's literary legacy because Sweden doesn't recognize common law spouses, no matter how long they co-habitatted. As I understand it, the unfinished novel is on her laptop, and she's got possession, but under Swedish law, the proceeds from the novel he wrote, would go to the brothers, even though Larsson apparently didn't want anything to do with them when he was alive. Lesson #1 ... make a will, even if you're only in your 50's... or younger. Larsson didn't bother.
