(Newser) – Philadelphia improved its Wachovia Center record to 6-0, behind sharp goalkeeping by Martin Biron, a brace of scores by Scottie Upshall, and a chaotic game-winner by Mike Richards. Richards's goal came off a missed rebound by Islanders keeper Rick DiPietro, with the Flyers short-handed; it was his third short-handed goal thus far this year.

The victory ended the Flyers' losing streak against the division-rival Islanders in Philadephia, who won all four games on the Flyers' hom ice last year, and came after New York's Miroslav Satan notched a bizarre assist by maneuvering the puck behind Biron; his teammate Chris Simon then slammed into the goalie, knocking him and the puck into the net.
