Snipers are gunning down children and other civilians in the Libyan city of Misrata, which is held by rebels but under siege from Moammar Gadhafi’s forces, UNICEF said today. “What we have are reliable and consistent reports of children being among the people targeted,” a spokesman for the UN’s children agency said, according to the AP. The Red Cross is sending a team by boat to the city today, and says it’ll investigate those reports.

Hundreds of residents have already been killed in the assault on Misrata, and food, water, and medicine supplies are running low. But NATO says it's having difficulty helping, because Gadhafi’s forces are hiding amongst civilians. (More Libya stories.)
