Former FBI, CIA Agent Had Hezbollah Ties

(Newser) – Lebanese native Nada Nadim Prouty overstayed her student visa, obtained US citizenship through a sham marriage, waitressed at a Detroit restaurant suspected of laundering money for Hezbollah, and became a CIA agent with access to sensitive intelligence. The case of Prouty, who tapped into government computers to obtain information about Hezbollah, has shocked the intelligence world, Newsweek reports.

Prouty, 37, gained sensitive jobs at the FBI and later the CIA thanks to her foreign language skills. She snooped in FBI computers to find information about herself, her relatives, and an investigation targeting Hezbollah. In a major embarrassment to US intelligence, she pleaded guilty yesterday to naturalization fraud, unlawfully accessing a federal computer, and conspiracy to defraud the US.
