The mother of rap star Kanye West died Saturday "as a result of surgery or anesthesia," a preliminary autopsy showed yesterday—more bad news for her surgeon, the Los Angeles Times reports. Dr. Jan Adams—a talk-show regular—faces sanctions from various state agencies over a string of alcohol-related convictions, including revocation or suspension of his medical license.

Adams, who has hosted a Discovery Channel plastic-surgery show and appeared on "Oprah," has settled two malpractice cases for a total of $467,000. Adams isn't certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons, though state law doesn't require such certification to practice. He has yet to comment on Donda West's death beyond issuing his condolences through a spokesman. (More cosmetic surgery stories.)
