At Mukasey Ceremony, Bush Vows Justice Makeover

Posted Nov 14, 07 11:15 AM CST in Politics US

(Newser) – President Bush looked on as Michael Mukasey was ceremonially sworn in today as attorney general today, the AP reports, and promised to rebuild the ravaged Justice Department behind him. “Michael Mukasey has my complete trust and confidence,” Bush said. “And he's going to have the trust and confidence of the men and women of the Department of Justice.”

After Chief Justice John Roberts gave the oath to Mukasey—who's officially been on the job since Friday—Bush said the retired federal judge would “bring clear purpose and resolve to the job.” Bush will have his first chance to rebuild tomorrow, when he announces nominees for dozens of jobs left vacant in the wake of Alberto Gonzales’ scandal-plagued tenure and resignation.
