A-Rod May Head Back to Yanks

Posted Nov 14, 07 2:47 PM CST in Sports    Most Covered

(newser) – The Yankees may get Alex Rodriguez back, and for a (relative) bargain. The slugger is in talks to stay in pinstripes for 10 years and $275 million—about $75 million less than he's been seeking—under a stipulation that his agent isn't involved. Sources tell the NY Daily News A-Rod is playing by the Yanks' rules to save his reputation, which took a hit when he announced that he would opt out of his contract.

"He's upset over the way he's being portrayed now," says one source. "It's not about money. It's about his face being everywhere. This is the only stage that can guarantee that," says another. Meanwhile, the Yankees don't have many choices at third base, the Daily News reports, another reason to reverse their "we won't negotiate if he opts out" stance. A-Rod has now acknowledged the talks in a statement on his web site.
