The '80s megastar Donnie Wahlberg came to the rescue of an ailing fan with some help from 21st-century technology. The New Kids On the Block singer re-tweeted a link to a blog post about a young fan in Nashville who was in desperate need of a kidney transplant to his 183,000 followers, reports the Boston Herald. The local hospital was inundated with offers, and six suitable matches were found among potential donors.

Bobbette Miller will get her new kidney in June. "Back when we found out Bobbette needed a transplant, her kidney was functioning around 20%," a friend of hers says. "I knew I had to reach a lot of people in the fastest way possible, so I posted the blog on Twitter. And within two hours, I saw that Donnie re-tweeted the link. I stopped dead when I read it. I couldn’t believe he did it. Donnie helped save my friend’s life." (More Donnie Wahlberg stories.)
