NFL Commish Reinstates Ricky Williams

Posted Nov 14, 07 9:57 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – Embattled running back Ricky Williams was reinstated to the NFL after an 18-month absence caused by his fourth violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. Miami coach Cam Cameron has not indicated whether the 0-9 Dolphins would reactivate Williams. Even if the team chooses not to use Williams this year, they could trade him in the offseason, reports the Miami Herald.

It would appear that Miami could use a quality running back after Ronnie Brown’s season-ending knee injury, but backup Jesse Chatman has played surprisingly well. Williams’ agent said his client stayed in shape during a lengthy stay in a Boston rehabilitation center. The 2002 NFL rushing champion plans to fly to South Florida to meet with Cameron and GM Randy Mueller.
