Thanksgiving Travel to Increase

Posted Nov 15, 07 3:51 PM CST in US    Editor's Choice

(Newser) – Some 38.7 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home this Thanksgiving, despite a spike in gas prices of 90 cents over last year, travel group AAA announced today. Of those hitting the road to visit friends and family, 31.2 million will drive, a 1.5% increase from last year.

Another 4.7 million will travel by plane, up 2.2% from last year, and others will ride trains or buses, Reuters reports. Gas prices tend to decline in the fall, but sharp increases in crude after Labor Day have kept gas above $3.00 per gallon this November.
