10 Buzziest Cannes Films

Cannes kicks off on Wednesday, and the Daily Beast rounds up 10 of the most buzzed-about movies featured at the 64th annual film festival:

  • The Tree of Life: From filmmaker Terrence Malick, the story of a Texas boy (played in adulthood by Sean Penn) torn between the worldviews of his father, played by Brad Pitt, and his mother, played by newcomer Jessica Chastain.
  • Melancholia: Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier's version of an Armageddon story, which centers around two sisters (played by Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg) who are drifting apart.

  • Restless: Dennis Hopper's son Henry Hopper makes his film acting debut in this piece directed by Gus Van Sant, about an eccentric teen who falls in love with a terminally ill girl, played by Mia Wasikowska.
  • Midnight in Paris: The latest from Woody Allen stars Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams as an engaged couple who are pulled apart during a business trip in Paris. (Click to read about Carla Bruni-Sarkozy's role.)
