No matter what you may think, there was a certain amount of levity there.  I think the Obama's can invite anybody they like.  The republicans would be complaining no matter what.  When they go to a play and they paid for it out of their own pockets, republicans complained.  When he went to Europe and took his family, there were complaints.  Go for it, but in the end that's not going to get him reelected.  It's because he's a good president and he's helping the country, whether republicans agree or not.  <:-)
