Mitt Romney, Take Your PowerPoint and Go Home: Ruth Marcus
Any questions?   (Mitt Romney)

Some people think Mitt Romney is unfit to be president because he created MassHealth, but not Ruth Marcus. “I believe Romney is unfit to be president because he used a PowerPoint presentation to defend it,” she writes in the Washington Post. These oh-so-popular presentations are invariably dull and useless. “The inevitable cutesy graphics add a bullet point of insult to the injury of having to sit through it.”

Romney’s presentation (pdf here) was so bad that “it is difficult to capture the graphical inanity in words.” He’s used the infernal program in past campaigns, too, even creating a 77-slide presentation as an internal strategy memo in 2007. “America does not need a PowerPoint president,” Marcus insists. Government-by-PowerPoint isn’t just dull, it substitutes impressive-looking bullet points for actual intellectual rigor. “Why think through a problem when you can spend your time surfing for clip art or experimenting with fonts?” (More Ruth Marcus stories.)
