On last night’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart made short work of Ben Stein’s defense of Dominique Strauss-Kahn. The first tier of Stein’s argument: The alleged sex criminal is a “short, fat old man.” Said Stewart: “Yes, he’s not nearly in the kind of raping shape he used to be in. I mean, 15 years ago, this guy was a raping machine.”

Stein’s defense, part 2: “Can anyone tell me any economists who have been convicted of violent sex crimes?” Stewart proceeded to rattle off a list of economists convicted of just such acts. One case has some eerie parallels to Strauss-Kahn’s situation: An economist at the World Bank was “convicted in 1999 of sexually assaulting—wait for it—a housekeeper.” Quips Stewart, "According to my data, economists are the rapiest profession going."
