With the Justice Department preparing to file criminal charges against him for using illegal campaign contributions to cover up his affair, John Edwards paid an "entirely personal and social" visit to the donor at the heart of the probe, her lawyers say. The former candidate spent yesterday afternoon at the home of 100-year-old heiress "Bunny" Mellon, a major Edwards donor whom prosecutors believe provided him with $700,000 to hush up the Rielle Hunter scandal, ABC News reports. Mellon's lawyers say she had no idea what the money was to be used for. (More Bunny Mellon stories.)
