Teen boy allegedly stole 7-year-old neighbor's earrings

(AP) – A Vietnamese teenager who allegedly killed his 7-year-old neighbor to steal her gold earrings to pay for computer games has been arrested. The 15-year-old was taken into custody a day after he allegedly beat the girl's head with rocks and fled with her earrings. The girl died of brain injuries four days later. The boy told police he planned to kill the girl while they were in the jungle picking fruit so he could pay for his online game addiction.

Violent crime is rare in Vietnam, but several murders involving online games have been reported. Authorities have been tightening restrictions on online computer use, including how late game centers can stay open.

(AP) - Vietnam has asked international health experts to help investigate a mystery illness that has killed 19 people and sickened 171 others in an impoverished district in the central part of the country, an official said today. The infection has mostly affected children and young people. It begins with a high fever, loss of appetite, and a rash that covers the hands and feet. Patients who are not treated early can develop liver problems and eventually multi-organ failure. The illness responds well to treatment if detected early, but 29 patients have been reinfected. (NEWSER) - The man accused of the brutal murder of five people in San Francisco was only in America because his native Vietnam refused to take him back, the San Francisco Chronicle finds. Farmville firm to sell 11.1% stake

(NEWSER) - Online gaming company Zynga is preparing an IPO that values the company at between $7.7 billion and $9.04 billion. The Farmville firm is selling an 11.1% stake, with 100 million shares going for between $8.50 and $10 each. The figures put Zynga on track to raise $925 million, more than any US Internet firm since Google in 2004, Reuters reports. A third-party analysis valued the company even higher, at $14.05 billion, two weeks ago—just below industry leader Activision Blizzard’s $14.2 billion. More»
