MTV Launches New Arabic Channel

Posted Nov 18, 07 11:45 AM CST in World Arts & Living

(Newser) – How do you say "pimp my ride" in Arabic? Fans will find out when they tune in to MTV Arabia, a new channel launched yesterday in Dubai. The youth brand hopes to deliver its sassy programs to an Arab world, where two-thirds of the population is under 30, without offending the culture, reports BBC.

"MTV Arabia" will show Arab music videos, talent shows, and an adapted version of some international programs, including "Pimp My Ride." At the opening ceremony, singers said they hoped it would help Middle Eastern artists gain recognition. "I think it's going to help exposure for all the music," said soul star Akon.
