Surprise, surprise: Mitt Romney is officially a candidate for president in 2012. He launched his campaign this afternoon with a speech that went after President Obama on the economy, reports the Boston Globe. The big line getting play: “When Barack Obama came to office, we wished him well and hoped for the best. Now, in the third year of his four-year term, we have more than promises and slogans to go by. Barack Obama has failed America." He also suggested Obama thought more like a European than an American—four separate times. New York's Daily Intel rounds up the lines here.

On another front, Romney took another stab at distancing Romneycare from Obamacare by repeating his demand that the federal plan be repealed so states can figure out their own solutions. Democrats aren't wasting any time with a counter-attack: The DNC released a video this morning called "Romney: Same Candidate, Different Positions." (See it in the video gallery at left.)
