Botched Sosa Check Swing Upends Red Sox

Posted Apr 7, 07 10:56 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – While attempting to check his swing, Rangers slugger Sammy Sosa accidentally hit an RBI single that would be the go-ahead run in a 2-0 victory over the Red Sox.  It was the first RBI of the season for Sosa, who is attempting a comeback with his 1989 rookie-season team.

Texas starter Robinson Tejeda mowed down the Sox lineup, holding the top of the order to 0-for-10 with two walks.  With Sosa's single in the first inning, the Rangers took their first lead in a game this season.  They had been swept by the Angels in their previous series.
