Libyan Rape Accuser at Romanian Refugee Center But UN rep won't say where Iman al-Obeidi will eventually end up By Evann Gastaldo, Newser Staff Posted Jun 7, 2011 8:27 AM CDT Updated Jun 7, 2011 8:36 AM CDT 1 comment Comments In this March 26, 2011 file photo, Iman al-Obeidi is seen after bursting into a hotel to show her wounds and allege to foreign journalists that she was gang raped by Moammar Gadhafi's troops. (AP Photo/Jerome Delay, file) (Newser) – Iman al-Obeidi, the Libyan woman who made headlines when she claimed Moammar Gadhafi's troops raped her, is at a UN refugee center in Romania. Al-Obeidi had gone from Libya to Tunisia to Qatar, but was expelled from Qatar back to Benghazi on Thursday. A UN spokesperson confirmed that al-Obeidi arrived in Romania from Italy on Sunday, unaccompanied, but would not name her final destination. "She will have the same treatment as other refugees: medical treatment, psychological counseling, and interviews with authorities from the country where she will be relocated," the spokesperson said. "It is a delicate case and I can't say more. She will leave Romania in a maximum of six months." Al-Obeidi's sister, however, said Sunday that al-Obeidi was in the process of being brought to the US.
