Flickr Launches Search Map of World Photos

Posted Nov 19, 07 6:44 AM CST in Business Technology

(Newser) – Beginning today, a new mapping feature will make it easier to view photos stored on Flickr by location. "Places," a new geographical sorting service on the massive photo-share website, pinpoints photo contributions to one of 100,000 locations on a global map, Reuters reports. The map also shows the latest hotspots for contributions.

Flickr hopes the new service will particularly appeal to prospective travelers, who can search for photos of places they're interested in visiting. Flickr Places allows searches by city, state, region and country, and includes featured pages for many of these places. Over 2 billion photos are stored on Flickr, which attracts 40 million visitors monthly.
